EET China Article: RISC-V Brought To China, Not A High-Rise Rendering

At present, there are about 300 companies in China that are concerned about or developing with the RISC-V instruction set. In 2018, they have also established the “China RISC-V Industry Alliance” and the “China Open Command Ecosystem (RISC-V) Alliance”. Therefore, many people will naturally think that the driving force of RISC-V architecture and products is more likely to come from China. At the same time, some critics believe that the seemingly prosperous RISC-V camp in China is actually the embodiment of the “short and fast” trend of blind pursuit of political achievements in the current industry – the number of alliances is large, the contribution of the community is small with few frontier studies. What is the current status and prospects of the RISC-V industry? What are the shortcomings? Will China welcome new opportunities because of RISC-V? Dr. Fang Zhixi, Chairman of the China Advisory Committee of the RISC-V Foundation, recently accepted an exclusive interview with EE Times on a series of key issues mentioned above.
