Western Digital, the storage hardware artist formerly known as WD, boldly predicted Nov. 28 that it is going to sell more than 1 billion new RISC-V core processors within the next two years. RISC-V (pronounced “risk-five”) is an open instruction-set computing architecture based on established reduced instruction set computing (RISC) principles. It is an open-source project available to anybody who wants to get involved.
