DARPA is still in the early prototype stages of its SSITH program, but the aim is to develop an open-source chip able to block cyber attacks and reduce the need for software patches. At the end of the SSITH program, DARPA hopes the prototype designs it develops using open source hardware, including RISC-V processors, and frameworks will be adopted by other manufacturers in order to help make devices more secure.
