As the 7th RISC-V Workshop – hosted by Western Digital in Milpitas, Calif., Nov. 28 – 29, 2017 – quickly approaches, enthusiasm from RISC-V Foundation members and the ecosystem continues to build. One of our member companies, Antmicro, has an exciting surprise prepared for the event that they unveiled on their website. A limited edition RISC-V electronic badge will be provided for select Workshop speakers and members of the media. To develop the badge, Antmicro worked in collaboration with SiFive and the RISC-V Foundation.
The first electronic badge design that’s completely open source from the start, the Workshop badge is powered by the 32-bit FE310 RISC-V CPU from SiFive and driven by the SiFive FE310 RISC-V SoC. The RISC-V badge is battery powered, programmable over NFC while using a smartphone, and features an e-ink screen displaying the badge holder’s name or other information the individual may want to share with the community. The badge consists of a carrier card with a reusable, socket based small RISC-V SoC module that can be removed and used for prototyping other interesting RISC-V projects.
Following the community-driven ethos of the RISC-V Foundation, the RISC-V electronic badge is an open source and modular design symbolic of the flexibility, extensibility and modularity of the RISC-V ISA. The RISC-V electronic badge design files will be posted to the Antmicro GitHub preceding the Workshop. You can also learn more here: http://badge.antmicro.com/.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Workshop! Stay in the loop about the Workshop activities by following the RISC-V Foundation on Twitter and LinkedIn.
