A consortium supported by the European Commission intends to create its own energy-efficient chips for high-performance computing and the automotive sector by 2021. The basis will be ARM and the free RISC-V .
With the European Processor Initiative (EPI), the European Commission is supporting a consortium of research institutes and companies to create their own processors. With 26 partners, the project has for the first time presented concrete plans and a first architectural design. Accordingly, the instruction sets ARM and RISC-V should be used.
