It was in the summer of 2010 that Krste and a group of students decided to do a complete new Instruction Set Architecture design. They tested and tried the existing ISAs available but always ran into the same limitation – the Isa was not shareable due to IP restrictions.
They sat down and worked on and Open ISA that could be shared and was future proof, the result, RISC-V.
