Message from RISC-V International

RISC-V is inevitable! During the past few months, the RISC-V ecosystem has continued to grow globally. We are witnessing incredible adoption, activity, and momentum across a variety of industries and are pleased to promote the work of the impressive RISC-V ecosystem.

RISC-V announced its elected RISC-V Board of Directors’ officers, each bringing unique and valued insight in our collective pursuit of architecture leadership. Learn more at the RISC-V blog.

RISC-V Summit China, held on August 23-25 in Beijing, sold out with more than 2000 registered for onsite attendance and thousands more watching the livestream! We received a total of 117 Chinese submissions and 29 English submissions, resulting in a packed three day agenda. You can explore the content on the RISC-V Summit China 2023 GitHub.

In July, we wrapped up activities at a successful DAC 2023, where RISC-V was a key theme throughout the show. The RISC-V Zone at DAC featured amazing exhibitors, including Agile Analog, CHIPS Alliance, Codasip, Imperas, and Siemens. In addition to RISC-V sessions, research manuscripts, and poster presentations in the conference program, I also hosted a panel about the power of RISC-V. On the panel, executives from Intel Foundry Services (IFS), Imperas, Meta, OpenHW Group, and Ventana shared how their respective companies are already using RISC-V, and what makes it stand out.

In June, we held the first annual RISC-V Summit Europe in Barcelona. The conference connected the European movers and shakers that are building the future of innovation on RISC-V. Throughout the event, speakers from different organizations discussed the flurry of RISC-V activity and underscored how RISC-V is critical for Europe’s future. One of the highlights from the event was a panel on the growing adoption of RISC-V in Europe, featuring leaders from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, EU Commission, EuroHPC, Munich University of Applied Sciences, NXP, RISC-V International, and Semidynamics. All the presentations from RISC-V Summit Europe are available on the RISC-V YouTube Channel.

RISC-V Day Tokyo also had a successful Summer 2023 conference, featuring more than 400 attendees and 20 sponsors! The talks covered a range of topics, including Japan’s Digital Industry Strategy, AI, IoT, Data Center and Automotive. Videos can be accessed via the event website.

RISC-V Day Taipei is happening on October 12, with local and international speakers from industry, academia, and research institutes joining together to share their insights and observations on the growth and development of the RISC-V ecosystem in Taiwan.

Mark your calendars for RISC-V Summit North America in Santa Clara on November 7-8, with member day on November 6. The agenda is now live where you can explore the abstracts for a range of talks across AI, Automotive, Data Center, Mobile, Security, and more. Come join the RISC-V ecosystem to learn more about the latest developments and pave the way for the future of #RISCVeverywhere.

We encourage you to continue to get involved in our many RISC-V programs, including:

  • The RISC-V Advocate program launched earlier this year to support the global momentum and adoption of RISC-V. This program underscores our commitment to making RISC-V the most efficient place to foster innovation. Apply by November 15 for consideration for the 2024 program.

  • We recently launched the RISC-V Fundamentals course and RVFA exam, intended for those interested in an entry-level RISC-V role or transitioning from another architecture. Feel free to share with your community and with anyone who might be interested in starting, or continuing their learning journey.

  • The RISC-V Interactive Landscape shows the rich ecosystem of technologies available today to enable development on RISC-V. The landscape is growing quickly; check back regularly for the latest updates and submit your technology for inclusion!

Technical Update

The Additional Scalar Floating Point Fast Track Extension (Zfa) has completed Committee Chair Sign-off for the Ratification-Ready milestone.  It will proceed to the TSC for approval and then to the Board of Directors for ratification.

The Indirect CSR Access Fast Track ISA specification was approved for Freeze by the Architecture Review Committee.  The specification work can be found in GitHub

The Supervisor Binary Interface (SBI) version 2.0 non-ISA specification was approved for Freeze by the Architecture Review Committee.  The specification work can be found in GitHub

The Vector Crypto specification authored by Ken Dockser (Rivos Inc.) and the Crypto Task Group completed Public Review

The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Functional Fixed Hardware (ACPI FFH) non-ISA specification was approved for Freeze by the Architecture Review Committee.  The specification work can be found in GitHub

Marketing Update

Our Automotive Market Development activity is working on a “RISC-V in Automotive” webinar for October 26, the first in a campaign of activities to connect with the automotive supply chain. Contact Andy Moore (andy@riscv.org) for more details.

A Data Center Market Development activity will be kicking off soon, to advance awareness and adoption of the RISC-V ISA and member technologies in the Data Center supply chain. Contact Andy if you would like to attend the first meeting.
