The RISC-V Foundation, in collaboration with the Linux Foundation, is hosting free, half-day “Getting Started with RISC-V” events in Tel Aviv, Munich, Berlin, Tallinn, Paris and London from Sept. 16-26. RISC-V Foundation members will give presentations and live demonstrations showcasing innovation RISC-V solutions and implementations. Register today to save your spot!
Western Digital is one of the featured RISC-V Foundation members in the EMEA roadshow, presenting the session “SweRV Core & CHIPS Alliance Initiatives.” Western Digital designs, manufactures and sells data technology products, including storage devices, data center systems and cloud storage services. Read on to learn more about the company and what it will be showcasing at the events.
What applications or problems does your company’s technology solve for engineers?
- Western Digital is leveraging RISC-V to ensure that open standard interfaces from processors continue to be available. Many proprietary processor architectures are locking down interfaces and forcing engineers to use specific IP or peripherals only offered by the vendor. Architects and designers should have the freedom to innovate and choose the best implementation for their architecture. Our desire is to accelerate the RISC-V ecosystem and enable innovation in a broad manner.
What does your company do regarding RISC-V?
- We have open sourced many IP blocks and software tools for RISC-V development. Our SweRV Core is the first production worthy, open source high performance 32 bit embedded processor. Future SoC developments based on the SweRV core will be done in an open source group called CHIPS Alliance. Western Digital has also developed abstraction layer tools, QEMU software and an instruction set simulator to assist software engineers to more easily adopt RISC-V.
What will attendees learn from your presentation?
- During the EMEA presentation, the SweRV Core, associated software tools and the CHIPS Alliance organization will be explained in more details. Come see how Western Digital is leveraging the collaborative power of open source and RISC-V for the next generation of hardware development. Speak with us about your hardware and software development challenges.
