Silicon startup Stream Computing to join the RISC-V Board of Directors and Technical Steering Committee to advance open source AI innovation

Zurich – Dec. 8, 2020 – RISC-V International, a non-profit corporation controlled by its members to drive the adoption and implementation of the free and open RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA), today announced Stream Computing has joined RISC-V International as a Premier Member. A Stream Computing executive will join the RISC-V Board of Directors and a company representative will also join the RISC-V Technical Steering Committee.

Founded in 2019, Stream Computing is a heterogeneous computing silicon startup. Stream Computing has developed a high performance, low power and compact Neural Processing Core (NPC) based on the RISC-V ISA. With Stream Computing’s customized hardware, open software and advanced AI algorithms, customers can quickly and easily deploy AI applications with machine vision, voice recognition and other cutting-edge technologies.

“The simple, modular architecture and extensibility of the RISC-V ISA made the design of our NPC possible. This design freedom enabled us to create an extremely powerful computing core for neural networks that is also super power-efficient, scalable and programmable,” said Mark Zhan at Stream Computing. “We look forward to collaborating with the RISC-V community to drive more open source AI innovation for commercial applications.”

“Over the past few years RISC-V has spurred the creation of a new wave of silicon startups, like Stream Computing, which are bringing to market exciting new products specifically designed to handle the latest computing workloads for AI and beyond,” said Calista Redmond, CEO of RISC-V International. “The Stream Computing team will add valuable expertise to our Board of Directors and Technical Steering Committee as we continue to drive progression on technical deliverables, grow the member community and deepen global engagement.”
