During the first Global IC Entrepreneur Conference, SiFive CEO Naveed Sherwani and SiFive China CEO Xu Wei accepted an interview with Sohu discussing RISC-V’s development trends and ecological construction as well as SiFive’s strategic layout and market prospects.
SiFive is the world’s first custom semiconductor supplier based on the free open source RISC-V instruction set architecture. Founded in 2015 by RISC-V invention teams Krste Asanovic, Yunsup Lee and Andrew Waterman, it is a leader in semiconductor design. With more than 300 employees and a revenue of $75 million, SiFive is one of the fastest growing companies in the global semiconductor industry. Shanghai Saiyu is a Chinese local company founded by SiFive and Venture Capital to promote the Chinese market.
The open and free RISC-V architecture was born, not only for universities and research institutions, but also for start-up companies with limited initial funding, developing extremely cost-sensitive products in areas that are less dependent on existing software ecosystems. The choice is to expand and tailor the instruction set according to the actual application, and implement the processor core for specific situations without costly licensing fees.
