Today’s chip design process can be more flexible, thanks to the evolution of electronic design automation (EDA) tools and the leverage of cloud computing technologies that have simplified the licensing process and lowered the investment in on-premises computing power. Alongside the strong semiconductor investment from the Chinese government and vibrant activity around RISC-V (pronounced “risk five”) among the open software community and top vendors, the semiconductor manufacturing industry has formed a healthy ecosystem for market development for RISC-V-based custom ICs.
